Book Review - Once Upon a River by Diane Setterfield

On a dark midwinter’s night in an ancient inn on the Thames, the regulars are entertaining themselves by telling stories when the door bursts open and in steps an injured stranger. In his arms is the drowned corpse of a child.

Hours later, the dead girl stirs, takes a breath and returns to life.

Is it a miracle?

Is it magic?

And who does the little girl belong to?

My Review

Blackmail, murder, spiritualism— this book has a little of everything. Part ghost story, part thriller, this is a book that I simply could not put down. The author has done a tremendous job of weaving complicated plot-lines into a smooth and polished story that stayed with me long after I had read the last page. I have to be careful because I don't want to give too much away, but needless to say, this was a book that I thoroughly enjoyed, and I will certainly be looking out for other books by this author.
