On tour with Goddess Fish Promotions - The Salty Rose by Beth M. Caruso #HistoricalFiction @oneofwindsor @GoddessFish

I am on tour again with Goddess Fish Promotions. This time I delighted to share with you an excerpt from Beth M. Caruso's book, The Salty Rose.

Marie du Trieux, a tavern keeper with a salty tongue and a heart of gold, struggles as she navigates love and loss, Native wars, and possible banishment by authorities in the unruly trading port of New Amsterdam, an outpost of the Dutch West India Company.

In New England, John Tinker, merchant and assistant to a renowned alchemist and eventual leader of Connecticut Colony, must come to terms with a family tragedy of dark proportions, all the while supporting his mentor’s secret quest to find the Northwest Passage, a desired trading route purported to mystically unite the East with the West.

As the lives of Marie and John become intertwined through friendship and trade, a search for justice of a Dutch woman accused of witchcraft in Hartford puts them on a collision course affecting not only their own destinies but also the fate of colonial America.

Tinker looked perplexed but wanted to know more.

By contrast, Winthrop exuded the serenity of angels as he continued. “John Tinker, you are meant to assist me. It is part of a greater plan. The

sign that you gave me was proof it must be so. The Emerald Tablet is calling you to learn its wisdom. I can teach you, and you can assist me to create a great center of alchemy in this colony.”

“A sign, sir? How can I possibly have a sign for you?” Tinker asked.

“God works in mysterious ways, Tinker. But your vision of the Emerald Tablet and your interest in the alchemical arts has clear meaning. What say you? Do you want to turn back or will you come into the light of natural wisdom?” questioned Winthrop.

He pivoted and approached a table near the fire where he picked up an old leather-bound book whose pages had yellowed with time. He leafed through them for a minute until he found what he was looking for.

“Come, Tinker. If you so desire and commit to this journey, if you swear to utmost secrecy, I will show you the meaning of what your soul is trying to introduce you to in dreams.”

“Yes, sir, I am committed. I am honored to embark on this journey of sacred knowledge with you. I swear an oath upon my own life that what is discussed between us will not be shared with anyone,” vowed Tinker.

John Tinker placed a hand over his own heart.

Winthrop smiled and gestured for him to come closer.

“Please, sit with me now,” he said, inviting his new adept.

“Close your eyes and listen to these sacred words—the long-sought

words that your dream foresaw that led you to me.”
